Chester Bennett was born on October 20,
1926, in Quincy MA. He spent much of his
youth in Quincy, and attended Quincy High
School.
In 1944, out of his sense of duty to his
country, Chester enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
During his time at Naval Training School
at Purdue University, Chester trained to
become an electrician and graduated in February
1945 with the rating of Electrician’s Mate
Third Class. Fulfilling his service obligation,
Chester was honorably discharged in July
of 1946.
After returning home, Chester followed in
his father’s footsteps and joined the I.B.E.W.
Local 103, in February 1947. Chester’s Father,
Chester A. Bennett, was also an electrician
and became a member of the I.B.E.W., Local
103 in January 1917.
Chester O. Bennett’s early work in the electrical
industry was exemplary and he soon became
a General Foreman for Hixon Electric where
one of his proudest projects was the completion
of the original John Hancock Building, in
Boston, MA.
On July 28,1958 Chester O. Bennett founded
and incorporated Bennett
Electrical Inc.
The original office space was located on
Hancock Street in Quincy, MA. However, due
to the success and growth of the company,
in 1969, Chester made arrangements to have
a new building constructed on Bennett Lane
in Quincy, MA. In December 1969, Bennett
Electrical, Inc. moved into their new offices
at One Bennett Lane.
Bennett Communications,
Inc. was formed
in May of 1990 and is a wholly owned subsidiary
of Bennett Electrical,
Inc., but operates,
as it’s own company. Bennett
Communication, Inc. is focused on the sale, installation,
and servicing of security, fire alarm, and
tel/data systems.
The Bennett Companies have been involved
in the design and installation of electrical,
and communication systems in substantial
construction projects throughout New England
including the New England Medical Center,
Mass General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s
Hospital, Lahey Clinic, Boston College, Wellesley
College, Emerson College, Boston University,
the Boston Athenaeum, and the Inter-Continental
Hotel.
